Keri Says…

30 Days of Truth: Day 17

Day 17 — A book you’ve read that changed your views on something

I have to admit, I don’t read much. It’s one of the things about myself I feel guilty about and would like to change. I always say I don’t have time to read, but that’s just a cop-out. I have plenty of time to read, but I find myself watching TV or blogging. I need to change that, for sure.

Anyway, I guess I’d have to say, of the books I have read, The Secret is my choice. I’m sure a lot of people may answer that. And I must be honest, I didn’t read the whole book, but I watched the DVD. ;) The Secret is based on The Law of Attraction—basically, what you think about, you bring about. If you focus on the negative, you will attract more negative. If you put out positive energy, you will attract positive things into your life. This has changed the way I think and my entire belief system.

Since I’m in a pretty deep rut these days, I get very frustrated because I have that belief system. I believe that if I’m not happy, I am the only one who can change it. So I get frustrated because, right now, there are things I just can not control right now and only time will take care of (Surprise, I’m a control freak). So, I’m learning patience and trusting the universe that whatever I need will present itself into my life.

I think what I need to do is finish reading that book, or even start at the beginning again. Maybe I’ll be re-inspired and will learn something new.

  1. I’ve heard a lot of really good rebuttals against The Secret. It’s a little bit too mental voodoo for me.

  2. I enjoyed the book – I am not a big believer that ONLY thinking happy thoughts will bring everything to your life – but I agree that you attract what comes your way to a degree and will never argue that being a positive person that is GRATEFUL for what they have is a bad way to be. The new book is out and I would like to read that.

I’ll definitely admit that when I first was introduced to The Secret, I totally stressed myself out about having negative thoughts. I constantly over analyzed every thought I had and was so worried I was going to sabotage my life if I let one bad thought through. Once I got past that and just took the general message of being grateful and started watching how I used my words (focusing on the things I did want rather than what I didn’t want), it felt a lot less “careful.”

I wasn’t aware of the new book. I’ll have to actually read this one entirely before I move on to that one. Heehee ;)
